  4. This scene seems to be the parallel of an earlier 
  5. one (Act 1 Scene 2). Here is another sea captain, 
  6. with a twin who has been rescued from a 
  7. shipwreck. Now it is SebastianÆs turn to lament the 
  8. loss of his sister, his identical twin, who must have 
  9. been drowned. Sebastian has found a friend in the 
  10. captain, Antonio, who accompanies him despite 
  11. the personal danger that he is in.
  12. 1, 2    nor . . . you: and donÆt you want me to go 
  13. with you, either.
  14. 3    By your patience: be patient with me.
  15. 3, 4    My stars . . . me: I am an unlucky person.
  16. 4    malignancy: bad luck (the evil influence 
  17. of his stars).
  18. 5    distemper: infect.
  19. 6    leave: permission (with a play on the 
  20. meaning ôdepartureö).
  21. 9     sooth: indeed.
  22. determinate voyage: planned course of action.
  23. 10    extravagancy: wandering around.
  24. 10, 11    so . . . modesty: such good manners.
  25. 11    extort from me: force me to tell you.
  26. 11, 12    what . . . in: what I want to keep to myself.
  27. 12, 13    Because the Captain is too polite to force 
  28. information from him, Sebastian recognizes that 
  29. common courtesy demands (it charges me in 
  30. manners) that he should disclose his identity 
  31. (express myself).
  32. 13    know of me: be told by me.
  33. 14    which I called: I called myself.
  34. 15    Messaline: a town invented by 
  35. Shakespeare.
  36. 17    in an hour: at the same time (i.e. they 
  37. were twins).
